The positives of the UK election result include:

The Conservatives (Tories) gone from government and 100s out of parliament including such scum as Rees-Mogg, ‘15 minute’ former PM Liz Truss, Coffey, Gullis, and Shapps.

There are no Tories left in Wales.

image

Former Tory MP Jonathan Gullis is not taking it well.

There’s 3 new Green MPs, Diane Abbot retained her seat, Jeremy Corbyn retained his seat and is joined by four other pro-Gaza independent MPs.

Jonathan Ashworth (Labour) lost his seat to one of the pro-Gaza independents, Shockat Adam.

Right-wing Labour MPs Jess Phillips and Wes Streeting came within a few hundred votes of almost losing their seats to pro-Gaza independents.

The Paisley’s (DUP) are gone from Northern Ireland (though his TUV replacement isn’t any better)

Anti-trans campaigner Posie Parker lost her deposit (only 196 votes). The trans candidate Sophie Molly running for the same seat won more votes than Parker.

Also, some key anti-trans MPs have lost their seats:

The Reform Party (pretty much Nazis) did not win the 13 seats they were initially projected to win based on the exit polls (and some of the worst estimates before the election had them gaining up to 60+ seats)

The dubious Workers Party GB got nowhere, and lost their only seat (goodbye Galloway).

-

The negative results:

The SNP lost most of their seats.

The Reform Party (basically just Nazis) won 4 seats. This includes millionaire and Trump lover Nigel Farage, now MP for Clacton-on-Reich. So the frog faced fascist is going to parliament (apologies to actual frogs) after decades of failing to get in.

And it’s no good anyone pretending that it’s only 4 seats, it doesn’t matter: the really disturbing part is that Reform - a party led by xenophobes, racists, and homophobes - received just over 4 million votes nationwide.

Taking down Reform and Farage needs to be an antifascist priority.

also i deeply resent the ongoing trend of video games ‘luxurization’. and i am not even talking about prices. so many of them became unaccessible unless you have expensive addictional tech and even more expensive pc with 100 billion gigabytes. all of this on the background of continued worsened exploitation of workers in gaming industry. disgusting.

So, okay, there’s a very good chance that some very significant Tories are going to lose seats tonight. The party Chair is currently having to sit through his seat going to a recount, when it was supposed to be one of the safest Tory seats in the country.

And one of the Tories in danger is Penny Mordaunt. Meanwhile, it’s been leaked that Rishi Sunak will announce his resignation in the morning.

So… Who the hell, if both of those come true, is going to take over as Tory leader? There’s no one left! Gove has stood down! Neither Braverman nor Badenoch has the skill or charisma to hold the position for longer than maybe a week before the entire House of Commons sniggers at them every time we speak! Total party collapse, possibly

FIRST CABINET MEMBER HAS FALLEN

the thing about watsonion reading vs doylist readings to me is…that while often they are orthogonal to each other, i find that it’s often best to consider them together rather than treat it wholly as an either/or thing. imo, you should always at least be aware of doylist reasons when considering your watsonian interpretation–it’s important to know where things came from–and the best watsonian intepretations are one that come from “okay, i know where this came from, but how do i envision how this works in-universe and why”. often a most sympathetic and well-rounded watsonian interpretation is one that tries to keep what you like/what you can but with improved and more thoughtful reasoning behind it.

conversely a doylist reading has to keep in mind that all characters, stories, decisions, and framings happen within the same doylist framework–there is not a single part of the narrative or any character that is untouched by doylist biases, which includes not just personal biases or racism or sexism (though, those are there to be sure & are very important to evaluate), but also things such as time era (what people *wanted* to see out of narratives at the time/what was popular and well-liked/likely to be commercially successful, what character archetypes were popular at the time, what the cultural standards were, and what may have been at the forefront of the writer’s mind as far as important stories and beliefs when he or she was actively writing it), what the overarching goal of the narrative is, and what narrative threads are prioritized. which is why you generally can’t exonerate one thing from a doylistic standpoint without also considering the watsonian ramifications for everything and everyone else–if you’re changing the basic doylistic framework to avoid the trappings of the original, then everyone has to change in response imo. and so they best doylist adjustments tend to be very thoughtful about how watsonianly everything would change as a result of the fundamental change in framework. they really do work best together.
